Lady Blazers win home invitational

The Lady Blazers won their home invitational cross country meet Sept. 29 by a 10 point margin over runnerup Mill Valley. Placing four runners in the top 10, the Lady Blazers cross country team captured first place honors in their home invitational, Sept. 29.
McKenzie Scroggin led the way with a first-place 4k time of 16:57. Her effort brought praise from coach Larry Ward.
“McKenzie is such a hard worker and it was nice to see her win an individual title,” he said.
Right behind came Katie Groshong and Aly Daniels (sixth in 17:57). Cheyanne Foster finished ninth in 18:19 and Jade Viso-Ely, 16th in 18:54. Molly Porter took 17th in 18:35.
All told, the Lady Blazers won with the low score of 39 to runner-up Mill Valley’s 55. Santa Fe Trail took third followed by Independence then Louisburg.
Equally impressive were the boys who finished 10 pts. shy of team champion, Mill Valley.
Dewey Molenda finished second in a 5k time of 17:46. Justin Wilde took seventh in 18:32 and Arron Scott, eighth in 18:33. Omar Quintana, ninth in 18:39 and Chris Kreiser, 12th in 18:49. Tim Visos-Ely finished 18th in 19:51 and Nathan Fox, 20th in 19:55.
Next comes the Cat Classic on Oct. 6 at Shawnee Mission Park.
